Festive Side Dishes Straight From the Freezer

So now you’ve picked your main (see our last blog for help!) We’ve scoured the supermarkets to find the tastiest and most convenient side-dishes to take all the angst out of getting it right on the big day. From the humble sprout to roasties cooked in goose fat, here is our pick of the crop.

Give the humble sprout a party twist with crispy bacon and shallots. Iceland offers a ready done frozen pack. Frozen vegetables are frozen within hours of being picked to lock in lots of nutrients often making them better for you than fresh vegetables. We know that at Christmas you don’t really care, but it’s nice to know that you’re being good while saving time and money. Available at just £1.50.

For more warming winter veg check out Bubble and Squeak or Red Cabbage and Apple both available at Iceland for £1.50 and £1. Quick and easy to cook from frozen, just pop in the oven and enjoy the day with your family and friends.

Roasties can make or break a meal and these tasty spuds roasted in goose fat are just like your granny used to make! You can pass these off as your own (we won’t tell!) and take all the glory at the table. Just £1.50 at Iceland.

Get the party started with ASDA mini Toad in the Holes. Great as an alternative to pigs in blankets or as finger food at a buffet. When catering for the whole family is left down to you, these make a great snack and are especially popular with the little ones.

 Yorkshire Puddings

No time to make your own Yorkshires? Try frozen ones, available in Iceland. These large beef dripping Yorkshires go really well with beef or turkey and your guests will never know that you didn’t make them yourself! 4 for £1.

If you’re serving turkey, no doubt guests will crave cranberry sauce. Frozen cranberries give you that sweet festive taste and don’t have the carbon footprint that fresh cranberries do in winter. Cranberries are available from Sainsbury’s for £2.29. Click here for a delicious cranberry sauce recipe.
